SEIGNIORAGE
Seigniorage is the profit from making money. It is earned by the entity responsible for issuing the currency, typically a
country's central bank. This profit arises from the difference between the cost
of producing the currency and the face value of the currency. For example, In
Bangladesh, the approximate cost to print bills are: Tk 1,000 costs Tk 8, Tk
500 costs Tk 7, Tk 100 costs Tk 5, and Tk 50/Tk 20 costs Tk 3 each. Smaller
bills cost less, e.g., Tk 10 costs Tk 2.2, Tk 5 costs almost Tk 2. Making coins
also costs money: Tk 1 coin is Tk 0.95, Tk 2 coin is Tk 1.2, and Tk 5 coin is
almost Tk 2.
But the bank earns beyond seigniorage. Profits come from gold value - as
gold value rises, the bank makes. Investing in government bonds also brings
interest income, and the bank's role with other banks adds to revenue. The central bank provides loans to commercial banks
and holds reserves on behalf of these banks. The interest accrued from these
loans and reserves adds to the revenue of the Bangladesh Bank. There's more
income from trading currency, financial services, and investments.
PLATE
FINISHER
The plate finisher's task is to work on the used
printing plates to ensure proper stamp/note production finishing. The plate
finisher ensures that the plates are clean and correctly polished.
Additionally, they must apply the emulsion at the right time to facilitate the
transfer of stamp designs onto the plate. The plate finisher collaborates
closely with the lithographer, printer, and other printing professionals to
ensure the stamps/notes are printed with the highest quality. Sometimes,
marginal markings from the plate finisher can be observed on the left side of
the lithographer's initial markings.
